At Bryan Johnson Orthodontics , we’re proud to create beautiful new smiles every single day. As a leading orthodontic practice serving Salem, Stayton, Silverton, and the surrounding areas, we offer a variety of high-quality orthodontic treatments ranging from traditional metal braces to exciting Invisalign alternatives like our clear aligners . No matter what your current situation or your orthodontic goals, a new smile starts with the first step of orthodontic treatment: your initial appointment.
Your first orthodontic appointment is an exciting milestone. It’s the first step in your journey towards a brand new, beautiful, healthy smile, and it’s also an opportunity for you to get to know the office, learn more about your orthodontic condition, and discuss potential treatment options.
You should expect your first visit to last about an hour — this will provide us ample time to get to know each other, perform a comprehensive orthodontic evaluation, and talk over potential treatments. One of our receptionists or patient coordinators will greet you when you walk in, take down some information, and guide you through our office. After getting some initial paperwork filled out, you’ll have your orthodontic exam.
“Where a smile begins”
Meet our patient coordinators, provide your information, and become familiar with the office.
We carefully examine your teeth, bite, mouth, and jaws using the diagnostic information needed for your care.
Review your diagnosis, treatment choices, expected timeline, and available financial options.
Open each section to learn more about the evaluation, diagnosis, and the questions we will discuss with you.
The main focus of your first appointment is for Dr. Johnson to perform a comprehensive orthodontic evaluation that will let us diagnose any orthodontic problems you may have and recommend a treatment. During this procedure, we may take any number of diagnostic measurements including x-rays, photographs, measurements, and impressions, which are a physical model of your teeth and bite.
After taking these measurements, Dr. Johnson will perform your exam. This will include a careful examination of your teeth, mouth, and jaws, and Dr. Johnson may also ask you some questions about your bite function and any other issues you may have when chewing or swallowing. We’ll use all of this information to form a diagnosis and create your treatment plan.
Some patients are lucky enough to be born with perfect teeth and won’t need orthodontic treatment — but for the vast majority of people, some form of treatment is necessary for a healthy smile. Based on your exam and diagnostic, we’ll form a preliminary diagnosis during your first appointment and go over some potential treatment options with you. During this discussion, we’ll outline the procedure, timeline, and estimated costs of treatment, and we’ll also be sure to answer all the following questions:
In addition to these basic questions, we encourage you to ask any questions you have of your own. We want you to have a full understanding of your current situation and the options available to you, so we’ll take the time to answer all of your questions in detail.
